TPG writes down $76m due to cancelled mobile rollout

Telecommunications firm TPG Telecom says it has written down its mobile network assets by $76 million and reduced the value of the spectrum licences it holds by $92 million ahead of issuing its results for the first half of the financial year 2019.

Vodafone Hutchison Australia chief Iñaki Berroeta is buoyant about the telco’s latest financial results and an increase in its mobile subscriber numbers to six million in the face of “significantly increased” market competition and continued hefty financial losses.

In the wake of the recent Vodafone Australia announcement that it will slash one quarter of the workforce in its Hobart call centre, it may be good to remind Australia’s number three telco of its less than auspicious customer service history in this country.

VHA blames ACCC MTR rates for big loss

Vodafone Hutchison Australia has posted a net loss of $241.8 million for the 12 months to the end of December, with the loss being put down to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission's decision to cut mobile termination rates (MTR).

The ads featuring a demonstration of irate mobile users marching and holding up SIM sized placards to protest bill shock may actually be closer to the truth than some carrers care to admit.
