Regional broadband spectrum up for grabs at auction

The Australian Communications and Media Authority has opened bidding in an auction to sell spectrum in bands that remain unallocated in the 1800 MHz band, and the 2 GHz, 2.3 GHz and 3.4 GHz bands.

The Australian Communications and Media Authority will hold an auction later this year to sell spectrum for mobile broadband, LTE and potential 5G technologies.

TPG has paid a whopping $1.26 billion for two lots of 10MHz  in the 700MHz spectrum auction, with Vodafone also shelling out $286 million on buying up the previously unsold spectrum.

Bidding for the unsold lots of the 700 MHz band spectrum has kicked off with the Australian Communications and Media Authority opening the online auction.
