Telstra's Next G: works better in more lifts?

Tech journos from Allure Media, which publishes titles such as Gizmodo and Lifehacker, got stuck in a lift, with iPhone 4's connected to Telstra working normally, a BlackBerry Bold 9700 on Optus fluctuating between 3G and GPRS and no signal from Vodfaone, with Next G the winner.

iTWire contributor Renai LeMay has beseeched Apple's CEO Steve Jobs to let the iPhone 4 Facetime video conferencing capability to be unlocked for use over Telstra's 3G network, but I'm thankful it's locked to Wi-Fi, and here's why, guys.

Samsung's LTE netbook isn't LaTE, it's way early

Although Samsung has announced a netbook with an inbuilt LTE modem at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Samsung's notebook and netbook announcements last week in Australia were far more significant: a netbook with built-in quad-band 3.5G (HSPA) modem module, and an admission that a Chrome OS powered netbook is in the works!

3 Mobile's iPhone 3GS - don't buy it?

3 Mobile, now part of Vodafone Hutchison Australia (VHA), has finally acquired the right to sell the iPhone 3G S in its portfolio of phones, but unless 3 Mobile has a super deal that seriously undercuts Vodafone, why would you buy an iPhone from 3?

Nokia N85 joins Telstra's Next G brigade

Although 2100MHz 3.5G networks have the widest range of 3G handsets available for it, the 850MHz network (as used by Telstra, AT&T, Rogers and others) still has all the major players making top models working on the frequency, with the N85 (arguably better than the N96) now joining the line-up.

Although Microsoft’s new survey on mobile phone usage in the bathroom/toilet/lavatory makes no mention of bathroom based mobile mishaps, with nearly 50% of Aussies using their phones in the so-called “rest room”, why didn’t they ask this question?

If you were tempted by Vodafone’s $0 upfront Dell Mini 9 netbook deal with 5GB of mobile broadband at $69.95 per month over 24 months, but haven’t yet taken up the offer, Vodafone has just sliced $10 off the monthly price – and is throwing in three months of free access to boot, making the deal cheaper still.
