Android smartphones are sending waves of excitement through the mobile community that they are a serious contender to knock iPhone off its smartphone perch. But, are they really a threat or have they already missed the boat?

Cue the trumpets the iPhone 3GS has made it downunder, albeit with considerably less fanfare than previous models. The original iPhone and subsequent iPhone 3G challenged the whole notion of what a phone can and should do, whereas on first impressions the 3GS provides a solid upgrade, but is it another revolution?

Handset giant Nokia has been losing out big time to iPhone and Blackberry in the smartphone stakes but hopes to turn things around with the release of the N97 on June 26. Will the N97  finally give us something to get excited about or is this new “iPhone killer” just more Nokia noise?

Yes, the iPhone 3G S has just launched, but Palm’s own webOS revolution is doing well with a quick update, delivered over-the-air, to immediately improve stability for some apps, a dozen new apps arriving post launch, an SDK is on the way and at least 50,000 sold at launch. Not bad, for Palm… but is it enough?
