Optus slugs iPhone users for tethering

Optus has revealed that its iPhone customers will have to pay extra to enable the new tethering feature. That's purely an access fee that's levied on top of the data charges.

Vodafone launches prepaid wireless broadband

Vodafone has followed Three and Optus by launching a prepaid 3G wireless broadband service, with pricing almost identical to that charged by Optus, and rather higher than Three's pricing.

Vodafone will turn on 3G services in a number of regional centres on 1 May taking its 3G voice and data coverage to around 80 percent of the population ahead of a scheduled provision of 3G services to 94 percent by the end of August.

ISP Internode will launch a 3G wireless broadband service on Tuesday 28 April, NodeMobile Data, by reselling the Optus wireless broadband service.

Yet another Telstra announcement on 21Mbps Next G wireless has arrived, this time toutin’ the fast talkin’, world record holdin’ Fran Capo on her Australian tour, to show off her Guinness World Record motor mouth and speedily segue into a spiel on the sizzlin’ speeds and in-store availability of Telstra’s 21Mbps wireless modems.

Tasmania to get first bite of the NBN apple

The Federal and Tasmanian governments have confirmed that the build-out of the National Broadband Network will begin in Tasmania. Construction is expected to begin in July.

3 Mobile has today launched a new WiFi application that turns its customers’ mobile phones into mobile wireless hotspots.
Cisco and Telstra have come together to help develop education and Internet-based communication in northern Australia by deploying a wireless broadband network and Cisco Unified Communications at an indigenous school in far north Queensland.

Australians cut wires to PCs and go mobile

A new report has confirmed that PC users in Australia are ditching their desktops and fixed line Internet connections while turning to notebooks and wireless technology. The report shows that the percentage of homes owning notebooks is fast approaching that of desktops and that broadband usage has reached saturation point.
