Complaints about phone and internet services decreased 33.4% in the last financial year ending 30 June 2022, but despite this poor mobile coverage was the most prominent issue for telco services, according to the latest report from the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman (TIO).

ACMA backs telco consumer regulatory reform

Australia’s telecommunications regulator, the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA), is backing reform of current regulatory safeguards in the telecommunications sector.

ACCAN, the consumer group representing telecommunications consumers, says more needs to be done to recognise the impact of unreliable telco services on consumers.

Telecommunications consumer interest lobby group ACCAN says the overall fall in complaints to the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman over the last six months indicates that consumers are broadly benefitting from action taken by the telco industry regulator – but lamented the fact that “tens of thousands of consumers have experienced unreliable telco services”.

Number portability set to stay in NZ
