The government of Canada has announced new measures to make 5G millimetre wave spectrum available for a range of new services.

The new 5G mmWave spectrum will "power 5G fixed wireless and super-fast 5G mobile", and with Optus, Telstra, Dense Air Australia and Pentanet winning mmWave spectrum, the future for Australia is super fast.

Optus states it is continuing to build a world-class 5G network which will be made even better with the acquisition of a range of new licences in the 26GHz spectrum band.

Telstra has announced it has secured 1000 MHz in the 26 GHz spectrum auction, investing $277 million to further extend its leadership in 5G now - and into the future. 

Five companies have won spectrum in the Australian Communications and Media Authority’s latest spectrum auction in the 26 GHz band. The 26 GHz band has been identified as optimal for the delivery of 5G wireless broadband services.

For years now, companies have teased the ability to charge devices truly wirelessly, receiving power through the air like your device receives Wi-Fi, but despite new demos from Xiaomi and Lenovo's Motorola last week, you can't buy an air charger yet.

The CEO of TPG Telecom, Iñaki Berroeta, has given a keynote speech at a major comms conference where he spoke about 5G's evolution and phases, 5G and IoT, massive boosts in video traffic, convergence, dark fibre, infrastructure, the NBN, renewable energy, the VHA and TPG merger and plenty more. 

At his Medium blog, FCC chairman Ajit Pai has announced the first of several 5G auctions in the US to bring forth millimetre-wave spectrum for mobile broadband, and more.

Millimetre wave spectrum for 5G broadband is the subject of the ACMA’s consultation paper, released today, with invitation for comments open and the deadline 13 October.
