Regional Australia Bank has become the first accredited Data Recipient under the Consumer Data Right (CDR), the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission legislation designed to help bring about an era of Open Banking in Australia.
The Australian Government is investing $1.67 billion in its 2020 cyber security strategy which it says will protect and strengthen the security and resilience of Australia’s critical infrastructure, and ensure law enforcement agencies have the powers and technical capabilities to detect, target, investigate and disrupt cyber crime – including on the dark Web.
The ability of Australia’s enforcement agencies to operate effectively in a digital environment where bad actors have increasingly employed encrypted communications to attempt to conceal their activities from authorities, has been identified by lobby group Communications Alliance as one of the key objectives to be considered in Federal Parliament’s review of amendments to the Telecommunications and Other Legislation Amendment (Assistance and Access) Act.
