Prices for telecommunication services continue to decline but do not translate into rapidly increasing Internet penetration rates, suggesting that there are other barriers to Internet use, according to a new global report by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU).

Telstra is partnering with the Queensland Government, the Torres Strait Regional Authority and the Commonwealth Department of Agriculture to deliver high-speed internet access for mobile device users across the Torres Strait islands by 2021.

The global body representing mobile operators, the GSMA, has launched a new online analytical tool — the Mobile Connectivity Index  to measure the ability of more than 130 countries to enable billions of their citizens to access to the Internet for the first time.
