Mystery surrounds the fact that Telstra, one of the Australian corporations most concerned about its mentions in the media, did not notice that its name was mentioned by iTWire as a sponsor of the defence lobby group Australian Strategic Policy Institute on at least four occasions [1, 2, 3, 4] even though it had ended its sponsorship of the organisation at the end of June 2019.

The British Government announced a little while ago that it would stop using gear from the Chinese telecommunications equipment vendor Huawei Technologies in the country's 5G networks and would remove all existing gear by the end of 2027.

Swedish telecommunications equipment vendor Ericsson claims that its products meet relevant requirements set by the Australian Government. The company was responding to a query as to why its partner in China, Panda Electronics, has been placed on a list drawn up by the US Department of Defence and said to contain firms that are either owned or controlled by the Chinese military.

Huawei Australia has lashed out at Macquarie Telecom group executive Luke Clifton for calling on Australian telecom network operators to follow Macquarie’s example and remove all Chinese made equipment from their networks.
