Xiaomi Corporation, the third biggest smartphone manufacturer, has become the latest Chinese company to be added to a US list of companies that are alleged to have connections to the Chinese military.

Chinese telecommunications equipment vendor Huawei Technologies says its revenue for the first half of calendar 2020 was 451.7 billion Chinese yuan (A$92.8 billion), an increase of 13.1% year-on-year with the net profit margin being 9.25%.

Former Independent senator Nick Xenophon has put the cat among the pigeons, pointing out that while Chinese vendor Huawei has been banned from supplying gear to the 5G networks, Telstra, which gets its 5G gear from a joint-venture arrangement between Ericsson and Panda Electronics, faces no such strictures.
