International data roaming provider Basic Interpersonal Communication Skills is claiming a world first with the “major milestone” establishment of an intercontinental live 5G data roaming service between Swiss operator Swisscom and South Korean carrier SK Telecom.

Australians have spent $1.4 billion in international roaming fees, prompting a call from one of the country’s larger telcos for travellers to review their phone plans ahead of the businest period for overseas travel, and to take steps to help avoid roaming charges.

Mobileum acquired by Audax Private Equity

Leading telco and big data analytics company Mobileum has been acquired by Boston Massachusetts-based private equity firm Audax in a deal which Mobileium says will allow it to continue to consolidate its position as a market leader in roaming systems while strengthening its rapidly growing analytics solutions portfolio.

Vodafone adds more countries to $5 roaming offer

Vodafone has boosted its $5 a day roaming network offer with the addition of six new destinations – Canada, Samoa, Papua New Guinea, Tonga, Vanuatu, and Solomon Islands.
