Australian TiVo to end on 31 Oct 2017

PVRs didn't kill the advertising star - yet

The widespread use of VCRs made a lot of us comfortable with the idea of fast-forwarding through the ads. And the emergence of DVRs/PVRs added pristine video quality to the mix. But ads have survived, and at least one industry watcher thinks they'll continue to flourish.

The Freeview DTV consortium has announced a new EPG for those equipped with Freeview badged devices.  Behind all the bluster and diversionary tactics, this new EPG does add one nice feature that is enticing, but don't rush out and buy a Freeview device.

Kogan launches Australia's first $99 PVR

Online consumer electronics retailer Kogan Technologies claims that it is now stocking the cheapest personal video recorder available in the country. The Kogan HD Digital Set-Top Box with PVR is supposed to be available for order today for only $99 and will ship to customers on March 10th.

Netgear claims 20% boost in HomePlug AV performance

The growth in Ethernet-connected home entertainment devices is bringing renewed attention to HomePlug AV, the technology that carries Ethernet signals over existing electrical wiring. Netgear's new Powerline 200 AV and AV+ adaptors bring some new wrinkles to the category.
