One-third of the Australian economy faces imminent and substantial disruption by digital technologies and business models, according to a new report from consultancy Deloitte Australia.

Acronis, a leading provider of data protection and disaster recovery solutions for physical, virtual and cloud environments, today announced it has been included in the Technology Fast 500â„¢ ranking of the 500 fastest growing technology, media, telecommunications, life sciences and clean technology companies in North America. This is the third consecutive year Acronis has been recognized on the Technology Fast 500 list, having been first named as a Rising Star in 2008. Rankings are based on percentage of fiscal year revenue growth during the period from 2006 to 2010.

Australia's traditional retailers have been told to move quickly into the online world before consumers develop loyalty to the much more nimble new players.

PVRs didn't kill the advertising star - yet

The widespread use of VCRs made a lot of us comfortable with the idea of fast-forwarding through the ads. And the emergence of DVRs/PVRs added pristine video quality to the mix. But ads have survived, and at least one industry watcher thinks they'll continue to flourish.
