Parallels brings Macs into System Center fold

Parallels Management allows Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager users to take control of their organisations' Macs.

The first Patch Tuesday for 2013 has rolled around, and Microsoft has released seven security bulletins addressing a dozen vulnerabilities. It's also one of those months when Adobe releases updates alongside Microsoft.

System Center 2012 goes to RC, free to download

Microsoft has made available a pre-release version of their much awaited System Center 2012 suite of infrastructure management tools. With a focus on cloud computing as well as improvements to system deployment and protection, the updated suite aims to build on the success of the current versions while adding powerful new functionality.

Tech.Ed plenary plugs private cloud

Microsoft officials took advantage of a plenary session at the company's Tech.Ed conference to preview some features of Windows Server 8 and System Center 2012.

Microsoft is using Hyper-V on its production systems to reduce the amount of hardware required and to respond more quickly to changing user needs.

Virtualisation is now mainstream and Hyper-V is gaining traction at VMware sites, according to Microsoft's server virtualisation guy.

A Microsoft executive has predicted that 80% of organisations will be using a mix of on-premises and cloud software in as little as three years time.

Hitachi Data Systems' new unified compute platform will make it easier for service providers to take advantage of cost savings made possible by the economies of scale provided by cloud-scale environments.
