Four university students, competing as ByteMe, have won the first prize in the Secur'IT Cup, an annual hacking competition jointly organised by security outfit Kaspersky and Hackathons Australia.

The Australian Cyber Security Centre tried to censor the content of a talk to be given by the partner of a Sydney legal firm at the CyberCon conference in Melbourne last week, but the organisers backed down at the last minute and the talk went ahead in its original format. The main objection apparently was to the lawyer's statement that Australia's encryption law was similar to laws in China.

New 3D tech leaps into the classroom

Qld unis mull sharing data centre and cloud options

Three of Queensland’s largest universities with a combined ICT budget of close to $200 million and 160,000 users between them are about to hire consultants to explore how best to shack up together – initially by sharing a data centre, although longer term more shared services and cloud offerings could be an option.
