Global PC shipments have shown a small increase in the fourth quarter of 2023, two technology analyst companies say, adding that the market appears to have bottomed out, with growth expected in 2024.

Global PC shipments are forecast to grow by 8% year-on-year in 2024 after seven straight quarters of decline, with the technology analyst firm Canalys saying the final quarter of 2023 would see an uptick to 5% growth.

Global PC shipments dropped to 65.6 million units in the third quarter of 2023, a 7% year-on-year fall, the technology analyst firm Canalys reports, adding that this was, however, a rise of 8% from the second quarter of the year.

Global shipments of desktops and notebooks fell by 11.5% year-on-year to 62.1 million units in the second quarter of 2023, the technology analyst firm Canalys says, adding that this followed two quarters when the decline was more than 30%.

Global PC shipments fell by 33% to 54 million units year-on-year in the first quarter of 2023, the technology analyst firm Canalys reports, adding that this was the fourth consecutive quarter of double-digit declines.

Shipments of PCs in 2022 hit a low note in the final quarter, with total shipments of desktops and notebooks falling by 29% for a total of 65.4 million units.

Close on the heels of technology analyst firms IDC and Gartner releasing figures on the global shipments of traditional PCs in the second quarter of 2020, analyst firm Canalys has published its figures, which closely approximate the numbers published by the other two companies.

Global PC and tablet shipments will fall 7% from 395.6 million units in 2019 to 367.8 million units this year, the technology analyst firm Canalys has forecast.

Global personal computer shipments fell by 8% in the first quarter of 2020 year-on-year, the biggest decline since 2016, despite demand soaring due to the increase in working from home and online education, the tech research firm Canalys says, adding that production and logistical issues due to the coronavirus crisis caused big delays.

Shipments of PCs in 2019 will show a small uptick in the Asia-Pacific and North America regions compared to 2018, the technology analyst firm Canalys says, with overall global growth forecast to be about 0.3%.
