Global PC shipments are forecast to grow by 8% year-on-year in 2024 after seven straight quarters of decline, with the technology analyst firm Canalys saying the final quarter of 2023 would see an uptick to 5% growth.

Global shipments of PCs amounted to 64.8 million units in the third quarter of 2023, the technology analyst firm Counterpoint Research says, adding that this represented a 9% year-on-year decline.

The global PC market is forecast to grow by 8% in 2021, the technology analyst firm Canalys says, adding that this will be after a stellar year in 2020.

New analysis suggests "remote working and distance learning amid an ongoing pandemic" is seeing continued increasing global demand for PCs. After a sharp fall in the first quarter of 2020, global PC shipments have grown by the end of the last year, however, not all market segments have performed the same amid the COVID-19 crisis.

Global shipments of smartphones will drop by 11.9% in 2020 year-on-year, the technology research firm IDC has forecast, with shipments totalling 1.2 billion units.

Shipments of PCs in 2019 will show a small uptick in the Asia-Pacific and North America regions compared to 2018, the technology analyst firm Canalys says, with overall global growth forecast to be about 0.3%.
