T-Mobile says mobile VoIP will not hit revenues

3GSM Mobile VoIP (voice over internet protocol) will not hit mobile telephony revenues, but will have more of an impact on fixed line services, according to T-Mobile International AG chief executive Hamid Akhavan.

At last September’s IDF (Intel Developer Forum), Nokia and Intel announced they were working on a 3.5G HSDPA module to be included with Intel’s next Centrino platform for Core 2 Duo processors, dubbed ‘Santa Rosa’. Now it’s been cut, and what a shame for consumers this is!

When you hear news that a consortium that includes Microsoft, Google, HP, Dell and Intel, among others has filed to submit a wireless handheld Internet access prototype device developed by Microsoft to the Federal Communications Commission, you know something is up. When you also hear rumours that the device may be based upon a Zune then you suspect a war is brewing and it involves telcos as well.

Linksys introduces 802.11n WLAN products

Cisco subsidiary, Linksys, has introduced its first products conforming to the new high speed 802.11n wireless LAN standard. They come with a few bells and whistles and are immediately available in Australia.

Touch-screens have been around for years, but get dirty, can be too sensitive, can require recalibration and need a revolution. Apple’s promising to deliver.

Nokia’s N80 3G phone has offered inbuilt Wi-Fi along with regular 2G/3G features. Now they’ve teamed up with Australian VoIP company Engin to offer 10c untimed VoIP calls when in range of a connectable Wi-Fi network

Microsoft’s Jason Reindorp has told Reuters that Zune could be coming to Europe before the end of 2007. Looks like it’ll be a new Zune, and not the current, now-outdated model.

Apple to charge $1.99 for 802.11n downloads

Apple has confirmed that it intends to charge customers a nominal US$1.99 for a software download which will enable the super fast 802.11n wireless technology laying dormant in their Intel Core 2 Duo and Xeon based Macintosh computers.
