Vodafone goes with Ericsson for major upgrade

It’s been a good week for Ericsson in Australia. Monday it was Telstra, Wednesday it’s Vodafone.

Another 200 towns to get Telstra LTE services

Telstra has announced plans for a significant expansion of its LTE network in response to what it says is "unprecedented demand from customers for superfast mobile services."

Ericsson has launched what its says is the first WebRTC enabled browser for mobile devices, enabling application developers to incorporate voice and video communications into their browser based mobile applications.

Alcatel-Lucent has continued its drive to help telcos add revenue-generating applications to their networks with a set of application programming interfaces (APIs) designed to enable web developers to easily incorporate communications functions into their applications.

Ericsson and Qualcomm say they have achieved the first successful handover of a voice call from LTE to a standard 3G network.

Internet performance measuring company, Epitiro, has completed what it claims to be the world's first independent speed, latency and voice quality-of-experience analysis on a commercially available LTE network, that of TeliaSonera in Finland, and has found LTE "directly comparable to high-speed fixed line services," and "capable of handling the most demanding of web-based applications including VoIP, video streaming and even HD IPTV."
