CA adds network management to Chorus

Mainframe management product CA Chorus now offers network and system management features. The company also announced other updates to its mainframe management tools.

Alcatel-Lucent has continued its drive to help telcos add revenue-generating applications to their networks with a set of application programming interfaces (APIs) designed to enable web developers to easily incorporate communications functions into their applications.

It might not get as much attention as it used to, but the mainframe industry is still alive and kicking. One example is the way BMC's mainframe service management business unit is responsible for around 40% of the company's revenue.

Sybase 365 has launched what it says is the first system that fulfils the key emerging need of future mobile operators: enabling them to host and provide messaging and other applications deliverable across different networks in an all-IP world.

Video in all its forms has long been touted as a "killer application" for the national broadband network, but according to Ericsson the big opportunity is to exploit tight integration between video content and related services that will be made possible by open IPTV standards and the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS).
