NEV sales in Europe rose in 2019, but from a low base

Despite a 52% rise in the sale of what are described as new energy vehicles (NEVs) in Europe in the final quarter of 2019, the number — 160,000 — means that NEVs only made up 4.4% of the 3.7 million cars that were sold in the quarter.

Australia's NBN and FttN - fibre to the nowhere?

Australia’s National Broadband Network (NBN) has reached a “key moment” with August 22 set as the date by which carriers must submit the remaining “network information” the Government wants to send to NBN bidders, so they can then start finalising their NBN proposals. But as telecoms analyst Paul Budde states, the FttN proposed for Australia is already out of date, with FttH the preferred standard being rolled out overseas.

Australian Government further delays 'œNational Broadband Network'

With any Australian fibre-based broadband network still up to 5 years away, the date of completion just got extended by at least 6 months as the Australian Federal Government extends the time for “robust proposals” to be submitted for consideration. As usual, the Federal Opposition is outraged!

The non-sniffable OPEL smell of WiMAX

As we all know, the Optus and Elders joint-venture called OPEL was felled by the Federal Government, not only seeking to save almost $1b but promote its own fibre network at the expense of next-gen WiMAX. What a shame.

Government claims 38 percent shortfall in Opel wireless coverage

The Federal Government has found a loophole that has enabled it to extricate itself from the much maligned deal under which the previous Coalition Government commited almost $1 billion to the Optus - Elders joint venture in return for the provision of broadband services to huge areas of regional and rural Australia, but the means by which it has done this seem highly questionable.

Australian Government kills Opel broadband venture

The Federal Government has told the Opel Optus/elders JV that was granted almost $1b of federal funding to roll out regional broadband services that it has not met requirements, and the contract has been terminated.
