Telecoms provider Elisa has launched a 5G Advanced network in Finland which it says will make its customers the first consumers in the world to use 5G Advanced for their home internet connections.

Vodafone recently announced a 4G Home Internet deal, and tripled its 5G coverage in Australia, and while the footprint is still smaller than that of Optus and Telstra, Vodafone's Black Friday deals show real confidence and ultra-competitive spirit.

It's not evident on Telstra Exchange blog post or its information pages for the 5G Home Internet and 5G Business Internet pages, but in the Critical Information Summary is the good news that downloads after 1TB continue at a still decent "up to 25mbps", which is a welcome jump from 1.5Mbps speeds on mobile plans, but is 5G Home or Business Internet available in your area yet?

TPG Telecom and Vodafone, two firms that merged last year, have both started offering 5G home Internet plans, in what is a welcome development for those stuck on the NBN.

Optus launches Internet gamer plan

Optus has launched a new home Internet plan specifically designed for gamers which it says aims to not only provide great WiFi coverage, but will also address congestion issues for gamers in households where multiple devices are being used, by prioritising their gaming traffic within the home or premises.

Optus 5G home Internet is an NBN killer

For a while now, there have been mutterings here and there that the NBN Co's vain attempts to raise its average revenue per user — which has the fancy acronym ARPU — will face a real challenge once 5G gets a foothold in the community and retail service providers decide to use it to challenge the government monopoly.
