Apple has plans to build an app to diagnose Parkinson's disease and two separate but related cardiac devices, the website MobiHealthNews has reported, based on emails exchanged between the company and the US Food and Drug Administration.

Lettuce is at the source of a May 2010 E. coli outbreak that has reached 23 states and the District of Columbia in the United States. The Associated Press reports that Freshway Foods has recalled the brands 'Freshway' and 'Imperial Sysco.'

FDA asked to force salt out of foods

Members of the Institute of Medicine issued a statement requesting that the FDA set federal standards to gradually reduce the amount of salt inside foods manufactured in the United States, along with being served in restaurants and provided by food service companies.

Harvard: Camel Orbs too close to Tic Tacs

A research study has found that Camel Orbs, a product being test marketed by tobacco company R. J. Reynolds, closely resemble the breath mint Tic Tacs. Harvard researchers say if they are accidently ingested by children, this "tobacco candy" could poison them.

A FDA advisory panel recommended on March 25, 2010, that the use of tanning beds in the United States be restricted for children and teenagers. Growing evidence shows that tanning beds can cause skin cancer especially when used young in life.

Concerns mount over melatonin drinks

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has concerns that sleep and relaxation drinks containing melatonin may have an adverse affect on the human body. Scientific studies have yet to be conducted to prove whether they are safe or dangerous to the human body.

According to a U.S. study of chain restaurants in the Boston area, the actual calorie content of their menu items was on average about 18% higher than that listed on their advertisements. And, frozen food companies didn't do much better at 8% higher than what was advertised.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warned consumers, on October 15, 2009, about the Web advertising of fake “Tamiflu” pills for H1N1 flu treatments. The FDA states that such purchases should only be made through licensed U.S. pharmacies and with a medical professional’s prescription.

The Njoy company has issued a news release stating that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's analysis concerning its E-cigarette contains "omissions" and "scientific inconsistencies." Njoy is having an independent third party analysis performed on the FDA study.

The FDA has sent a warning letter to the Coca-Cola Company, saying that it is not appropriate to market its soda Diet Coke Plus as nutritious and fortified. The Coke company includes "Diet Coke with Vitamins & Minerals” on its DC+ pop labels.
