Multiplay service booms in Asia Pacific with revenue to hit at US$275.3 billion by 2025

By

Multiplay service revenue in Asia Pacific is estimated to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 3.2% from US$235.4 billion to US$275.3 billion by 2025 driven by the rise of multiplay households in the region and growth in average monthly multiplay household spending, according to data and analytics company GlobalData.

The GlobalData forecast reveals that multiplay service households in the region will grow at a CAGR of 2% over the forecast period with China leading in multiplay subscriptions. Faster growth is anticipated from relatively underpenetrated markets like India.

Quadruple-play services, which attract higher average household spending, will also drive growth in the overall multiplay service revenues over the forecast period.

“While double play service plans will account for the majority of the multiplay households in Asia Pacific through the forecast period, its share in the total will drop from 72.3% in 2021 to 62% in 2026. Triple play and quadplay service plans will see their share of total multiplay households grow from 20.4% and 7.3% in 2021 to 27.4% and 10.6%, respectively in 2026,” notes GlobalData telecom analyst Pradeepthi Kantipudi.

GlobalData says that fixed network infrastructure and high fixed broadband household penetration in China (101%), South Korea (86%), and Singapore (79%) allow telcos to promote multiplay service bundles built around high-speed Internet services.

“As operators package additional benefits such as unlimited Internet, access to video-on-demand platforms, and free 4K set top box to enhance their bundled service offerings, the average monthly household spend on multi-play service bundles will also increase, thereby driving overall revenue growth,” Kantipudi concludes.
