Telstra launches AFLW app for 2018 season Featured

By

Telstra has launched the official app for the AFL Womens’ 2018 competition — the AFLW — after securing the rights to live stream all AFLW matches.

The new AFLW official app was created in house by Telstra Media’s Product Innovation team in collaboration with the AFL and will carry live streams of all matches.

And Telstra says for its mobile customers the AFLW games will be data-free.

The new app is included in Telstra mobile plans and all live games will be available via the AFLW official app, which is separate to the AFL Live app which provides live streaming access to the men’s competition to Telstra customers and paid subscribers.

Telstra’s group executive Media and chief marketing officer Joe Pollard says Telstra saw unprecedented demand by sports-mad fans live-streaming their favourite sporting games in 2017, “with our audience subscribing to Telstra’s sporting apps increasing 346%  throughout the year, to over 1.5 million”.

“We’ve built a new destination specifically for AFLW fans, and we’re also making live matches available across our full range of AFL products.

“In all the places where AFLW audiences are, we are making sure the live-stream is there too.

“In addition to the dedicated AFLW Official App, Telstra has also secured the rights to live-stream matches through the AFL app on Telstra TV, enabling full screen TV viewing for Telstra TV customers from the start of the AFLW season on 2 February.

“All matches will also be streaming in the official AFL Live app too.”
