The decision by National Broadband Network operator, NBN Co to extend its Education Assistance offer until 15 January 2021, has earned the praise of communications consumers peak body ACCAN, which says the targeted offer from the company waives the wholesale costs for many services on the 25/5 Mbps speed tier - and encourages telcos to offer free or heavily discounted NBN plans to low-income households with school-aged children.

ACCAN fears reduced services if USO changed

The direction that the Productivity Commission has indicated the Universal Service Obligation will take may put some consumers at risk of having reduced services, according to the Australian Communications Consumer Action Network.

Weather delays second NBN satellite launch by a day

The launch of NBN Co's second Sky Muster satellite was delayed this morning, the company said today. Later, NBN Co informed the media that the launch would take place on 6 October at 7.30am AEDT.
