eBay’s woes continue with formerly heavily promoted Australian online payments entity Paymate deciding to lodge its own formal complaint to the ACCC concerning “eBay’s restrictive trade practices”, while eBay users react to this latest development.

iTWire has received more news from concerned eBay users about eBay’s portrayal of PayPal as the “safest” way to transact on the auction site, writing to their banks to see if they believe that Direct Deposit is no longer a safe way to transact.

ACCC still monitoring eBay, PayPal a bank?

Looks like the ACCC still has eBay well under its investigative sights despite not officially saying anything since eBay withdrew its notice to force buyers to use PayPal while claiming to have received ACCC authorisation to continue compelling sellers to use PayPal whether they want to or not!

Realising the ACCC’s powers may no longer apply now that eBay has withdrawn its notice to force PayPal onto buyers, and realising that the eBay empire still wishes to force PayPal onto its seller citizens, the rebels are marshalling their forces for battle! Is the force with them?

An iTWire reader has sent through what appears to be further proof of eBay flouting the ACCC’s wishes in a continued attempt to force PayPal on sellers who may not wish to use it. Please read on.

Confusion has arisen over comments made by eBay Australia CEO Simon Smith suggesting that despite the withdrawal of eBay’s plans to force all users to use PayPal, Smith believes the ACCC is allowing eBay to force all sellers to offer PayPal as a payment option. What’s going on?

eBay has suffered the ultimate embarrassment of being forced to cancel its ridiculously anti-competitive plan to force buyers and sellers to use PayPal only. But is eBay’s flip-flop enough to restore any credibility? What about the problem of negative seller feedback? What about PayPal’s extremely poor customer service? And will heads roll at eBay Australia simply for being so incredibly stupid, or do we point fingers at eBay HQ in the US?

C'mon! Lleyton's dad takes on eBay

Disillusionment with eBay's attempts to force PayPal onto all buyers and sellers has sparked interest in other auction sites. Glynn Hewitt, father of Australian tennis star Lleyton Hewitt (who was knocked out of the Wimbledon tournament overnight) is looking for a piece of the action with eSwap.com.au.

eBay has been warned about counterfeit goods being sold online before. Now a French court has given them 65 million reasons to get their act together.

At 1.30pm today, a pre-decision conference by the ACCC will hear the grievances of preregistered attendees unhappy at eBay’s plans to enforce Paypal payments at its Australian auction site, as eBay hopes for what would appear to be an unlikely reprieve.

An in-depth survey of the state of spam for the first half of 2008 reveals that spammers have re-discovered a love for the written word. They still rather like drugs and ebay as well...

eBay is praying that the ACCC will agree to its ridiculous request that it be allowed to break Australian law in forcing buyers and sellers to use PayPal. But as eBay users go away to other sites and don’t plan on coming back on any other day, all this forced Paypal work and no fair play makes eBay a dull auction site.

Happy 10th Birthday PayPal!

The policies of its now owner, eBay, may have mired PayPal in controversy around the world, but that has not stopped the online payment service celebrating 10 years of operation with a commemorative website and a survey.

Perth man selling entire life on eBay

Ian Usher has not coped brilliantly with the ending of his 8 year marriage. In fact, as everything seems to remind him of his failed relationship he has decided to do something about it: sell his entire life on eBay.

eBay launches lobbying campaign aimed at the European Parliament, arguing that EU laws damage trade. In a wonderful display of thumb suck sulking, eBay complains that traditional retailers are exploiting the rules to benefit their business. Well duh!

It is hard to fathom the behaviour of eBay in Australia over the past couple of months because never in the history of the technology industry has a multinational company so flagrantly flagged its intention to flout this country's commercial laws. The question is how should Australia as a market respond?

Skype 4.0 Beta - hands on review

The long awaited Skype 4.0 Beta is finally available for download and I've been putting it to the test. What I discovered were big changes, both in form and function.

After having its attempt to force sellers and buyers to use PayPal exclusively quashed by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, eBay Australia is warning sellers not to include alternative payments systems in their ads. Since the ACCC issued its draft notice on June 13, eBay has been effectively in denial, acting as if come July 15 its new PayPal only policy will come into effect.

Since May 21, all eBay Australia sellers have been forced to offer PayPal as an option for buyers. However, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) recently decided to deny eBay the right to enforce a PayPal only policy on its Australian site. Will the ACCC force eBay Australia to shut down its mandatory PayPal option for sellers?

eBay has issued a statement on its Australian website expressing its disappointment that Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has blocked its plan to enforce the use of PayPal on the eBay Australia site. However, with just about everyone outside eBay agreeing with the ACCC decision, eBay has incredibly decided to challenge the ruling. Does eBay know the meaning of the expression flogging a dead horse?
