Search giant Google has teamed with small business accounting software vendor MYOB in a massive promotional push to give 50,000 small Australian businesses their own basic websites for free. The deal aims to make establishing a simple calling card website a no-brainer by filling in a form and includes $75 worth of Adwords for promoting the brand via Google.

Dr. Vint Cerf - often called the 'Father of the Internet' (along with Dr. Bob Kahn, and others), now chief Internet evangelist at Google - gave a fascinating recent lecture at Stanford University about the Internet's development, its successes, surprises along the way,  areas where it hasn't succeeded, and ways that it should be improved.

Microsoft has released a "feature complete" release candidate version of Internet Explorer 9.

The National Library of Finland has turned to crowdsourcing to clean up errors in digitised documents. Volunteers are rewarded by turning the tasks into a game.
