Earth to Gliese 581d, anyone there?

The search for human life beyond mother earth is one of those endless pursuits that never ceases to fascinate and intrigue we earthlings. So far, however, there’s been a deathly silence from outerspace to all the signals sent so far, but that’s no deterrent to Australian website, Hello From Earth, which today sent off a new signal to a far off planet with text messages from 25,000 people from all over the world.

Texting and driving may be a thing of the past

If U.S. lawmakers have their way, then texting while driving your motorized vehicle will be illegal in the United States. It’s just another example that when people are not responsible for their own health and safety, then government must come in with new laws to force health and safety upon its citizens. Such actions should be applauded because they keep responsible citizens safe from irresponsible people!

Australia an SMS mad nation says new report

Australia has long held a reputation of being a nation of sports fanatics but the country is now rapidly adopting the mantle of being a land of crazed SMS text fanatics. According to a new report, far from using SMS for just essential services, Australians will text each other for anything and at practically all life events - and hang the expense!

Oh crap - I just dropped my phone down the loo!

Although Microsoft’s new survey on mobile phone usage in the bathroom/toilet/lavatory makes no mention of bathroom based mobile mishaps, with nearly 50% of Aussies using their phones in the so-called “rest room”, why didn’t they ask this question?

Theoretically coming September is Apple’s iPhone (and iPod Touch) OS 2.1, which is supposed to have “Core Location” GPS services, more bug fixes (which OS 2.0.1 didn’t really fix) and the “push notification” services that are a substitute for programs running in the background – but this has just been taken out OS 2.1 beta 4. Will 2.1 be a panacea for suffering OS 2.0 users – or just more purgatory?

A new crime of 'communicating indecently' covering both email and text messaging has been announced in Scotland. Randy Scots who send messages of a sexual nature could face up to 10 years in jail as a result of the new Sexual Offences (Scotland) Bill.
