Pawsey Supercomputing Research Centre has announced its latest supercomputer, Setonix, has been recognised as one of the greenest supercomputers in the world, after ranking in the top 5 (4th place) on the globally recognised Green500 List. Announced today at the international supercomputing conference SC22 in Texas, the ranking puts Setonix in company with exascale supercomputers Frontier in the US and LUMI in Finland, which share the same computing architecture.

CSIRO buys up big

IBM tops latest Green500 supercomputer list

IBM has shamed its competitors, ranking by far the most environmentally friendly supercomputer maker. Eighteen of the top 20 systems on the Green500 list were made by IBM. The Green500 ranks supercomputers according to the number of floating-point operations per second they can perform for each watt of power consumed.

IBM dominates Green500 supercomputer list

IBM has smashed its competitors in the latest Green500 list of the most energy-efficient supercomputers, which shows that performance and running costs need not be diametrically opposed. The latest list shows that other supercomputer vendors are struggling to compete with IBM in the bang per Watt stakes.

IBM's Roadrunner sets new supercomputer record
