Pawsey Supercomputing Research Centre has announced its latest supercomputer, Setonix, has been recognised as one of the greenest supercomputers in the world, after ranking in the top 5 (4th place) on the globally recognised Green500 List. Announced today at the international supercomputing conference SC22 in Texas, the ranking puts Setonix in company with exascale supercomputers Frontier in the US and LUMI in Finland, which share the same computing architecture.
AMD's star has been rising ever since it launched its Ryzen and EPYC processors, with AMD bringing back much-needed competition to the computing space, making PCs great again and putting the super into supercomputing, and AMD's MD of Sales for the APJ region joined us on iTWireTV to talk about it all.

Intersect Australia will install an SGI supercomputer at one of Macquarie Telecom's Sydney data centres and make it available to Australian researchers.
University and research supercomputing is being revolutionised by the march of platforms built using commodity graphics processor chips used in games machines and mobile phones. Queensland University of Technology and the University of Melbourne are the latest to take the plunge.
CSIRO has signed up for a Xenon computing cluster based on commodity graphics processor chips - the same chips being used to build the Titan supercomputer at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in the US, slated to be the world's fastest once completed.
Commodity graphics processor chips used in games machines and mobile phones are revolutionising the face of supercomputing - and should lead to the delivery of 4 teraflop desktop machines running Windows HPC or Linux for just north of $10,000 by 2012.
IBM has announced that the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Argonne National Laboratory will use IBM's next-generation Blue Gene supercomputer to enable significant advances in areas such as designing ultra-efficient electric car batteries, understanding global climate change and exploring the evolution of the universe.
