GUEST OPINION: Predicting the future isn’t easy, but you can anticipate what is likely to happen by looking at how things have evolved over the past year. This year again, Barracuda asked colleagues who work on the security frontlines about the things they witnessed in 2024 and expect to see in 2025.
GUEST OPINION: How does credential stuffing work? Initially, a 3rd party service is breached, and credentials are stolen. There have been many high-profile organisations that have had their customer’s user credentials stolen, I don’t wish to pick on anyone in particular. Usually, it is a combination of email address, username, and password (typically hashed/encrypted). These credentials are then published on the dark web for bad actors to purchase and use in automated credential-stuffing attacks. The credentials are then used to automate login attempts on other online services to see if these same credentials work.
GUEST OPINION by Mark Lukie, Director of Solutions Architects APAC at Barracuda: High-profile cyberattacks on major companies were a distressing feature of 2022 with the number of high impact breaches eye-opening. There has been a sharp increase in ransomware attacks in the Asia Pacific region and the sophistication of cybercriminal weaponising their tools into As-a-Service model. Millions of people were affected and faced the prospect of their personal details being made public.
GUEST OPINION: It’s a cybersecurity threat that organisations have been facing for years, and the wave of ransomware attacks is showing no sign of abating.
COMPANY NEWS: Barracuda, a trusted partner and leading provider of cloud-first security solutions, today announced that Barracuda Security Awareness Training now offers customised training curriculum aligned with the Australian Cyber Security Centre’s (ACSC) Essential Eight to help Australian businesses protect against cyber threats and cultivate a cybersecurity culture.
GUEST OPINION: Ransomware attacks continue to top the list of IT security concerns for many organisations. They can be disruptive, damaging, and very costly to resolve. Indeed, The State of Office 365 Backup survey highlighted that 67% of Australian businesses are concerned about data being backed up outside their geo residency and 69% are concerned about compliance with data privacy requirements.
GUEST OPINION: Now a seemingly permanent part of most people’s daily lives, the shift to working from home has been a rapid and jarring experience for many organisations.
GUEST OPINION by Mark Lukie, APAC Sales Engineer Manager, Barracuda: While activity within Australia’s energy companies is slowly starting to return normal following protracted lockdowns caused by COVID-19, it’s clear that things have changed.
We ask senior IT industry executives for their thoughts on the likely confluence of SDN, Cloud, Edge and Zero-trust in the near future.
We asked a number of IT executives what the 'new normal' might look like as the impact of COVID-19 wanes.
Here's what the IT industry executives had to say.
GUEST OPINION by Mark Lukie, Sales Engineer Manager - APAC, Barracuda Networks: Remote access to centralised IT resources has been a feature of modern business for years. Everyone from travelling executives to field staff have needed a way to connect with and use the applications and data store they require.
Mark Lukie talks about 2021 and cybersecurity, with the need for human firewalls, training, zero trust, cloud, COVID-19 and plenty more!
GUEST OPINION by Mark Lukie, sales engineer manager – APAC for Barracuda: If anyone had predicted half the things that happened in 2020, we should be paying them a lot to give us predictions for 2021! Going into 2021, we should expect many of the key cybersecurity trends from this year to continue in Australia.
