Moon gets museum but probably not NASA astronauts

According to California, it has designated numerous objects left on the Moon in the 1960s and 70s as a state historical resource. Since it looks like U.S. astronauts won't be going to the Moon any time in the near future, articles left on the Moon will at least be protected from commercialism.

Preliminary result of Ares 1-X: 'rock-steady'

The Ares 1-X rocket, launched by NASA on its first test flight Wednesday, October 28, 2009, performed normally except for a parachute problem and performed even better than expected with respect to its thrust oscillations.

NASA scrubs Ares 1-X due to weather problems

At 11:20 a.m. EDT on Tuesday, October 27, 2009, NASA gave up trying to launch its first test flight of its new Ares 1-X rocket. The entire morning was besieged with adverse weather conditions, a ship in restricted waters, and a stuck probe cover.

NASA officials approved on Friday, October 23, 2009, the first test flight of its developmental Ares 1 rocket that will eventually take astronauts into space. The Ares 1-X test flight is scheduled to liftoff on Tuesday, October 27, 2009.

NASA fires up first-stage motor to new Ares 1 rocket

The first full-scale, complete two-minute test firing of the first-stage motor for the new Ares 1 rocket was performed on Thursday, September 10, 2009. The successful test firing will provide important data to validate the ability of the Ares 1 to lift the Orion capsule into space as part of the new Constellation Program.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration has been reviewed by the U.S. Government Accountability Office. Concerns have been raised on its future plans for Project Constellation. Leadership at The Boeing Company is also concerned with the ability of the United States to maintain its space leadership role.

Boys on Orion spaceship might be beached if bad vibrations not fixed on Ares

Initial design tests showed violent shaking of the Ares I rocket during future launches, however, NASA is now reporting that the rocket will be fitted with shock absorbers, or mass counterweights, or other damping agents to counter any strong vibrations.

MSNBC has a very good illustration of many of the upgrades to the NASA space shuttle fleet. Its webpage “Shipshape Shuttle” shows many new features installed on the shuttles to reduce flight risks.
