Apple calls time on iPhone 4 case program

Apple has announced that "the iPhone 4 antenna attenuation issue is even smaller than we originally thought" and so the company's free case offer to will lapse on September 30 as originally announced.

After writing much of iTWire's coverage of the iPhone 4 'death grip' issue, I was pleased to get some hands-on time with Apple's popular handset. As I suspected, the issue has been overstated, at least under Australian conditions.

iPhone 4 rivals hit back at Jobs' claims

Steve Jobs' claim that there are shielding issues with all smartphones has stirred up a hornet's nest, with BlackBerry maker RIM, Nokia and HTC defending their products.

All smartphones suffer from reduced signal strength when held in particular ways, and the iPhone 4 is no exception, according to Apple CEO Steve Jobs. Few owners are reporting issues to Apple, and return rates are particularly low, he claimed. But Apple has decided to give all owners a free case as this may help ameliorate the issue.
