iRODS to support Fujifilm Object Archive

By

The iRODS open source data management software will soon be able to use Fujifilm's Object Archive as a deep tier archive storage target.

The collaboration between Fujifilm and the iRODS Consortium aims to take advantage of the benefits of a tape storage tier to provide an automated archiving workflow for research, commercial and governmental organisations storing large and typically growing amounts of data.

Fujifilm Object Archive software fully supports the Amazon S3 abstraction provided by iRODS.

But the two organisations have been working to add functionality to the iRODS S3 Resource Plugin, which will be delivered as as part of the upcoming iRODS 4.2.11 release.

"We are very excited to be working with Fujifilm," said iRODS Consortium interim executive director Terrell Russell.

"Together, we are building a long-term relationship that will be good for our users and both organisations."

Fujifilm Recording Media USA vice president of sales and marketing Tom Nakatani said "The new interoperability between Object Archive and iRODS will greatly benefit organisations who use both products and potentially create new use cases as well.

"We are pleased to successfully implement this joint solution to better support our collaborators and users."
