More than 270 mobile sites in total are now back online, including 37 today, but there remains a big job ahead.
The continuing wild weather means the situation remains dynamic but we’re working with authorities to get services restored ASAP.
Telstra Area managers in QLD and NSW issued the following statement:
"We’ve made good progress bringing customers affected by ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred across south east Queensland and northern New South Wales back online.
"More than 270 sites are back up and running and delivering coverage, but there’s still a big job ahead.
"Our teams on the ground are working closely with authorities to ensure we can get in and restore affected services ASAP when it’s safe to do so.
"The remaining impact continues to be due to widespread power outages caused by ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred.
"Our network sites have backup systems that keep services running for as long as possible, but customers should be prepared for disruptions if power’s out for a long time in their area, or if access is cut to a site.
"We’ve also activated our assistance package for affected customers, which includes extra mobile data and free call diversions.
"We know this is a tough time and the weather is still unpredictable, so we urge everyone to stay safe and thank them for their patience."
Current impact across Queensland and New South Wales:
- 277 mobile sites restored
- 117 mobile sites disrupted
- 6,788 landline phone services disrupted
- 1,621 ADSL services disrupted
