Orion Satellite Systems advances satellite connectivity with AI-driven ‘evolution of Horizon’ Featured

By Gordon Peters

Satellite communication solutions provider Orion Satellite Systems has announced that it continues to push the boundaries of intelligent network management with the evolution of its Horizon platform into Horizon AI.

Orion says the next-generation enhancement enables customers to better anticipate and manage their data usage across Low Earth Orbit (LEO), Geostationary Earth Orbit (GEO), and Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) constellations by “leveraging AI-driven forecasting to provide proactive service recommendations”.

AI-Powered Data Forecasting with Horizon AI
Horizon AI constantly tracks usage patterns and compares them with monthly limits, leveraging advanced predictive analytics to identify emerging trends, by analysing historical data, it predicts when users might exceed their current allocations - and if persistent overages are detected, Horizon AI suggests plan adjustments, ensuring customers avoid extra charges while providing the appropriate data needed for smooth operations.

“With the growing adoption of multi-orbit architectures, AI-powered data forecasting provides real-time insights that empower businesses to optimise their network resources with minimal manual intervention. This technology enables proactive bandwidth allocation, preventing congestion and ensuring that mission-critical applications receive priority connectivity when needed most,” says Orion.

Horizon AI as Part of the Complete Multi-Orbit Management Solution
As a core component of its Multi-Orbit Service Management Solution, Horizon AI works in tandem with the Horizon Gateway Device to deliver an integrated, resilient, and scalable connectivity experience - and together, they enable:

  • Seamless multi-orbit handover to ensure smooth transitions across LEO, GEO, and MEO constellations.
  • Redundancy and resilience by intelligently balancing connectivity across different satellite networks.
  • Scalability for expanding satellite constellations, ensuring networks can adapt to increasing operational demands.

“Alongside their dedication to implementing AI data forecasting capabilities, the team has also been working to achieve the update to IPSTAR’s recently attained ISO 27001 certification: ISO 27001:2022. Completing these projects in parallel enabled the seamless integration of the new workflows into all processes, ensuring greater efficiency, security, and compliance across our operations,” Orion notes.

“By embedding AI-driven intelligence into our Multi-Orbit Service Management platform, we are giving customers greater control over their network performance and costs.” said Dan Mandich, GM of IPSTAR ANZ. “This is another step in our roadmap of rolling out features that empower operators to proactively manage their usage, optimise bandwidth, and reduce unnecessary costs. Introducing this feature alongside our ISO 27001:2022 certification demonstrates our commitment to delivering both efficiency and security – both key attributes of a reliable connectivity partner.”

“Orion Satellite Systems remains at the forefront of satellite communications, delivering intelligent solutions that empower enterprises, governments, and satellite operators to harness the full potential of multi-orbit architectures,” concludes Orion.
