Is Cupertino planning to kill the DVD?

In case you hadn't noticed, Apple is phasing out the use of optical drives. The current iMac and Mac Pro lines are shaping up to be the last of their kind with DVD drives.

The rumours of new iMacs coming on May 3rd were true, with Apple's marketing promising 'up to three times the performance of the previous generation', next-gen quad core processors, graphics and Thunderbolt I/O, with prices starting at AUD $1399.
