WD revs up Red drives for NAS

Storage vendor WD has introduced a new line of disk drives designed specifically for use in NAS units.

Western Digital's HGST subsidiary claims to be the first to ship enterprise-class 4TB drives.

Hitachi GST claims its latest Ultrastar solid state drives are the first enterprise-class SSDs to use 25 nanometre SLC NAND flash memory technology.

With 1TB hard drives normally 12.5mm and too big for most notebooks that can only take 9.5mm drives, Western Digital's slim and trim HDD fits that 9.5mm mould, giving road warriors more space to store.
