WD recalls power supply

Western Digital has recalled the power supply provided with certain My Passport Wireless Pro and SSD Hard Drive models.

HPE has warned users of four models of its SAS solid state drives that the devices, which are used in servers and storage products, could die after 40,000 hours of operation unless a firmware fix is applied.

WD/Toshiba - 512 gigabit, 64-layer, 3D NAND chip

Western Digital has announced pilot production of a 512Gb, three-bit per cell (X3), 64-layer, 3D NAND (BICS 3D) chip from its production partner Toshiba’s Yokkaichi plant in Japan.

WD has upped the capacity of its proven Ultrastar 12TB He12, a fourth generation, 3.5”, helium-filled hard disk drive, to 14TB and a 7.68TB NVMe, PCIe SSD for use in data centres.

Leading storage analyst Tom Coughlin predicts storage needs and trends – his latest forecast is that there will be a 6.2 times (that is a 620%) increase in storage needed for entertainment needs alone by 2021.

Hard drives from Hitachi Global Storage Technologies have come out ahead of the pack as far as reliability goes, in figures released by the storage services provider Backblaze.
