'Moronic' video deal buys Google legal woes?

Opinion Google's $1.6bn purchase of YouTube is "moronic", says entrepreneur Mark Cuban. And he should know. In 1999, Cuban's streaming media company Broadcast.com was bought by Yahoo! for $5.7bn. Back then, Broadcast.com was also losing money, but with a rather sounder business strategy than YouTube today.

I've read somewhere online that the next twenty to thirty years are supposed to herald more technological advancements than the last two thousand years put together. While that looks like coming true (as long as we don't blow ourselves up first in some kind of nuclear or environmental catastrophe first), new laser technology is threatening to dethrone plasma and LCD TVs from the top of the TV heap.

YouTube finally made its owners some cash today when search behemoth Google coughed up $1.65bn for the video clip mix-tape site.

US company Ruckus Wireless has launched technology claimed to allow operators to remotely enable, manage and secure WiFi networks in the home, primarily for the distribution of IPTV. It has announced sales to a telco in Czech Republic and raised $US16 million in venture finance with backers and customers claiming it has a unique solution to a significant problem.

Google to buy YouTube for $1.6bn - reports

Google is close to buying YouTube for $1.6bn, according to reports. Props for the scoop, if the talks pan out, go to TechCrunch, the Red Herring of the Web 2.0 Generation, which today reported this "completely Unsubstantiated Google/YouTube Rumor". The WSJ today also says that Google and YouTube are negotiating and mention $1.6bn as the price. But this could merely mean that the two publications have the same source.

Impending death of YouTube is greatly exaggerated

According to Forrester analyst Josh Bernoff, YouTube is going down. Bernoff believes YouTube is going to be sued to death because of copyright violations like the original Napster was. However, in my view the comparison with Napster is neither fair nor correct.
