Zune: it's not just the player stupid

I originally wanted to title this article "Zune is iPod envy incarnate" but, after reading another article which explored the iPod envy angle, I decided to take a different tack. From what I understand, Zune is actually a very nice player, as is iRiver, Sansa and of course iPod. However, the player itself has very little to do with why Zune will probably be a flop, at least initially.

Google YouTube a legal minefield or a revolution?

Google has released an ominous warning in its latest filing to the Securities and Exchange Commission, saying that the planned acquisition of YouTube for US$1.65 billion worth of Google stock could involve damages awards and a forced change of the company's businesses practices. Market watchers had warned prior to acquisition last month that video posting site was a legal minefield waiting to explode. Are we seeing that or the start of a information revolution.

Zune a brown elephant?

I must confess to having a good chuckle at a blog article criticising Microsoft's Zune strategy on the Forbes site by David M Ewalt. The article does indeed raise some important defects in Microsoft's strategy. The good news for Microsoft is that most of them can be fixed. The bad news is that one key problem cannot.
