Labor’s NBN – the idea of a publicly owned and funded, all fibre, wholesale broadband network, is now officially dead.

The second report into the NBN by the Vertigan panel has made recommendations on privatising the NBN which are far more radical than any yet proposed.

Communications Minister Malcolm Turnbull and his Labor shadow Jason Clare were as predictable as the report itself in their responses to the Vertigan NBN cost benefit analysis.

OPINION: The long awaited Vertigan cost benefit analysis of the NBN has found that Labor’s version was a waste of money, while the Coalition’s offers much better value. Wow!

The Vertigan panel, a government-appointed group given the onerous job of reviewing the National Broadband Network, is set to miss its July deadline for key reports, throwing telco plans into potential turmoil.
