Telstra ups funding for foundation

Telstra’s showing its caring, philanthropic face during Australia’s national e-security awareness week with an announcement today that it is doubling funding to its Telstra Foundation for use in the spotlight on cyber safety program this year.

Abuse report: Teens sniffing inhalants

Although a lower percentage of U.S. teens are sniffing, or huffing, inhalants in 2007, the number of teenagers who have abused inhalants has remained about the same for the past five years (2002-2007), according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

U.S. 2006 teen birth rate in MS over 3X that of NH

According to the CDC report Births: Final Data for 2006, the rate of having babies among Mississippi teenagers is 68.4 per 1,000 females versus 18.7 for teens in New Hampshire, nearly 3.7 times the difference between the highest state and the lowest one.

A Johns Hopkins study has found the pledges made by American teenagers to remain virgins until marriage are not effective. In fact, pledged teens are just as likely to have premarital sex as non-pledged ones.

Self-embedding disorder worse than thought in teens

U.S. researchers find that mentally disturbed teenagers use dangerous types of self-injury when confronted with stress. Only recently identified, self-embedding disorder is now thought to be used in more severe ways by teens to inflict injury, along with being more common, especially in girls.
