Ah, fond memories. Before the days of Tinder, Grindr, Bumble, and all that, those seeking love would send a gift or hand-written note from “your secret admirer” leaving the recipient thrilled to know somebody out there likes them while wondering who. Australian global gifting business Prezzee is bringing it back in a digital form this Valentine's Day.

Scamwatch, a website run by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, urges the public to be mindful of dating and romance scams after the organisation reported a total loss of $56 million last year, up by 44%.

Scammers fleeced an average of nearly $6500 from Indigenous Australians in 2017, a 14% increase on 2016, with total losses to scams around $1.7 million – with the most losses incurred by Indigenous victims of dating and romance scams.

Australians lost $340 million to scams in 2017, a rise of $40 million over the 2016 figure, according to data from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission.

The American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) undertook a survey of sexual and romantic habits for people in the United States 45 years and older. The 2009 survey was released early in May 2010. It found that most people in the 50s had less sex from 2004 to 2009.
