Unified communications meets business process automation
Tight integration between business processes and unified communications systems is something leading UC vendors such as Avaya, Nortel and Cisco have been pushing for some time, but another UC player, Interactive Intelligence, has gone one step further: it aims to leverage its strengths in unified communications to enter the business process automation market.

Sale of LTE & CDMA business to Nokia Siemens spells the end for Nortel
Nortel is to sell almost its entire CDMA business - the world's second largest - and its LTE assets to Nokia Siemens Networks for $US650m under a deal supported by Canada's government-owned export credit agency, Export Development Canada (EDC) with a $US300m loan commitment.

Nortel alumni mount rescue bid
According to a report from Canada's CanWest news service, the former president of Nortel, along with several long-retired colleagues are trying to raise $US1bn to buy Nortel and keep it intact, in contrast to the current management which is doing its best to sell off various parts of the bankrupt company.

Nortel exploits Microsoft OCS 207 R2 to boost unified comms offerings
Nortel has introduced new capabilities to its unified communications products to complement Release 2 of Microsoft's Office Communications Server 2007, which became available earlier this month.

Nortel files for bankruptcy protection - UPDATED

Telstra set to boost backbone network capacity?
Ericsson announced last week that it had won a contract to supply Deutsche Telekom with technology that will significantly increase the capacity of its optical fibre backbone network. This has big implications for Telstra.

A ten fold increase in submarine cable capacity?
Southern Cross Cable network has installed technology from Nortel which has significantly increased the capacity of the US terrestrial component of its network and in all likelihood could be applied to the entire system.
