An NBN retail service provider has questioned the need for a service like the NBN Co' Enterprise Ethernet in places where fibre connections are already available at a much lower cost.

Soon after any federal election, it is common for leaders of one or both major parties to indulge in platitudes about governing in the national interest. In the end, only the most partisan politics prevails. And that is likely to be the same in the case of the NBN.

The chief executive of Internet Australia, the peak body representing Internet users, has told the Senate NBN Inquiry currently underway in Canberra that the MTM broadband network being built by nbn is not good enough for Australia’s future needs.

COMMENT: With the Communication Minister, now the Prime Minister, there are high expectations regarding a more future focused policy where ICT will play a key role. The Prime Minister is talking about hi-tech companies and a transformation of the economy and the NBN should be a pivotal element of this new policy. With that in mind let’s look at where the NBN is at this moment.

COMMENT: Just before he became Prime Minister I had a telephone discussion with the then Minister for Communication, Malcolm Turnbull, regarding an article I wrote in which I expressed my disappointment about various issues around the NBN.

NBN Co, which is nbn these days, has added over 200,000 ‘homes and businesses’ to the nbn NBN network - only 6.8 million to go!
