Netbook explosion takes Acer to number 1, Asus to number 4 in EMEA
Netbook sales in EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) have literally exploded in the third quarter of 2008, making Acer the top ranking PC vendor for the first time ever, while propelling Asus up the ladder into fourth place. IDC figures show that growth in notebooks overall has been strong, but the take-up of netbooks has been staggering.

on sale at “select retailers” in Australia, but while its size is
positivelEee ultra trim, it’s a shame the $999 price isn’t also on a
diet, although you can't expect Asus to give the S101 away for frEee!

News flash to Apple, announcements about expensive, oversized aluminium clad futuristic looking notebook computers are just so yesteryear. If you want to grab people's attention these days give them something they can afford and just as importantly something they can use - give them a netbook.

The ASUS S101 slim Eee PC - not worth buying?
It’s all over the news – Asus is launching the slimmest netbook that
comes close to challenging the MacBook Air in sleekness and slamming it
in price, but certainly not in power, screen or keyboard size, while
being pretty pricey all its own. Won’t 2009 be the year of a zillion
slim netbooks at ever better pricing?

ASUS Eee PC S101 - Australian specs
An ASUS public relations representative in Australia has released details of a new ASUS Eee PC, the S101. Whilst an official release date was not stated, it is understood that the device is soon to be released in Australia. The spokesperson said that "the S101 is unique to the Eee PC family in terms of its design. Its focus is more as a luxurious Eee PC".

facts are facts: one of the world’s biggest makers of netbooks says
Linux models are being returned at a rate at least four times higher
than XP netbooks. Could it be that Linux sucks?

Toshiba's NB100 Netbook - yet another brandname cheapie!
Toshiba has announced that it too is joining the “Netbook” race, but
given that the Intel Atom is a chip designed for exactly this type of
low-spec computer, what’s more of a surprise is that it has taken
Toshiba this long to join in the fun!

A 'state of the union' memo from Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer to all his employees makes it clear that the company still sees Apple and Google as threats, but for very different reasons. Yet, the ethereal nature of Ethernet has long made computer networks hard to decipher and many a business or home user has longed to peek into the data stream to see just what is going on.
