In 2022, World Computer Day has honoured the 6502 processor, powering Apple 1 and II, Atari, Commodore 64, Nintendo Entertainment System, the BBC Micro and others, following on from last year's inaugural World Computer Day, of Feb 15, 2021, which to celebrate the ENIAC's 75th birthday as the world's first all-electronic programmable computer, and to honour and continue honouring ENIAC's game changing breakthroughs - and many more milestones to come in computing's past, present and future.
The Feb 10 and Feb 15 Zoom video calls of celebrations of the 6502 processor are embedded below, with both celebrating the 6502 chip's incredible impact and legacy, along with that of 6502 Co-Creator Bill Mensch, with the processor powering the Apple-1 and Apple II, Ataris, Commodore Pet, Vic 20 and the 6510 in the C64, BBC Micro, Nintendo Entertainment System and more, with sales of 6502 successors continuing even today.
The 6502 chip was used in many seminal computers - the Atari 2600, Atari 8-bit family, Apple II family, Nintendo Entertainment System, Commodore 64, Atari Lynx, BBC Micro, Kim-1, AIM-65 and others, and it is still sold today to enthusiasts. It's the chip that is being celebrated this World Computer Day, 2022, and there's a special free virtual event + networking on 10 Feb in the US (7am to 9am 11 Feb AEDT) - full details below!
