Official Windows 7 public beta coming this Friday

If you're not one of Microsoft's premium customers and you don't trust torrents, your wait for Windows 7 is almost over. Microsoft will release the Windows 7 public beta this Friday, January 9.

Microsoft’s long-awaited Windows 7 beta 1 “7000” build ISO torrent is finally available for the world to download, but not officially and clearly not from Microsoft. No, if you want Windows 7 beta 1 right now, the only way to get it is to “break the law” – and thousands seem to be doing just that, unable to wait the few extra days before Microsoft opens the floodgates!

With a select group of beta testers around the world supposedly already using the Windows 7 7000.0.081212-1400 official beta 1 build, global impatience over the non-appearance of a torrent is reaching boiling point – at least for some - but no download is yet available, and people are getting impatient!

Wow – the Internet sure works fast. Only yesterday did the news come through that Windows 7 build 6956 was leaked as a VHD from China’s Microsoft WinHEC conference. “Chinese hackers” promised to convert the VHD into an installable ISO, and within 24 hours, it has happened - and is eagerly being illegally downloaded worldwide!

Have you illegally downloaded the leaked Windows 7 6956 build, which is a VHD instead of an installable ISO, and are now wondering how to install it? Amazingly, hours after the leak went online, detailed instructions are now available.

Windows 7 build 6956 leaks to web as a VHD

It has been claimed that an attendee at the Chinese WinHEC conference has managed to leak a Virtual Hard Disk (VHD) image of the previously unreleased Windows 7 6956 build to torrent sites on the Internet. Some have claimed success in downloading the file and running as a VHD, others claim no success and say that “Chinese hackers” are trying to convert the VHD into an installable ISO instead.

Despite rumours that the first official Windows 7 beta would arrive in December, even though Microsoft has always officially targeted January 2009, the latest evidence seems to point to January 13 being the day the beta goes live.

Go Google the search giants product base and you will discover, even if you discount the experimental labs stuff, that nearly half of everything it produces is still in beta. That includes Gmail which has remained a beta product for 4 years! What possible reason could there be for this?

Looks like Microsoft is going to do its best to “simplify” Windows 7 in many ways we don’t even know about yet, but what we do know is that there’ll be no email client, no photo gallery and no built-in movie maker: you’ll need to download them, instead.
